Known problems with this dashboard — read before using these figures

Built with data from March–June 2026; supervisor districts reflect December 2024. Three defects are known and not yet corrected here:

• Households with children under six are overstated by about 2.42×. The ACS sub-category fields are percentages and were used as counts. Every supply-against-demand comparison on this page inherits the error, so the shortfalls shown are too large.
• The Head Start / state preschool overlap is an artefact. Programme tags were assigned by matching agency names, and the same three agencies match both programmes — which made one a subset of the other by construction. The “46 facilities participate in both” figure describes the matching rule, not San Francisco.
• Only about 40% of small family child care homes are here. This map plots 224 licensed small homes holding 1,786 slots. A 2026 records request to the state established that the city actually has 556 of them, holding 4,322 licensed slots across 25 postcodes. The missing 332 homes are not on any public list with an address, so they cannot be mapped — but they exist, and every count on this page is short by them.

Corrected figures for the first and third points exist in the newer analyses in this repository. This page is kept up because it is linked from elsewhere, not because it is current.
